It’s an exciting time for the Carolina Panthers with their four-game winning streak...running back, Christian McCaffrey, playing like an MVP...and their defense forcing turnovers at a high level.
However, the main story surrounding the Panthers involves the quarterback position. During the past four games, Cam Newton has been out with an injury and backup Kyle Allen has filled in extremely well.
Allen is completing about 66% of his passes and has thrown seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s playing with poise and confidence and his teammates are positively responding to him. After the team started 0-2 with Newton, Allen has helped to turn the season around.
As awesome as all this sounds, the Panthers face some potentially big decisions if and when Newton gets healthy, and many questions are being discussed by the front office, coaches, fans, and the media:
Should Newton return as the starter or should they stick with the undefeated Allen?
Has Allen done enough to prove he's the long-term answer?
Is Newton still the Panthers' quarterback for the future or will they move on from him at the end of the season?
Could the Panthers trade one of their quarterbacks at the trade deadline or after the season?
What happens if Newton returns as the starter and the team doesn’t play well?
How will the locker room respond to whoever is chosen to start at quarterback?
Will the choice that’s made determine the future of head coach Ron Rivera and GM Marty Hurney?
We know how important the quarterback position is and the decisions being debated right now will have major consequences for this season and the future of the Panthers.
For many of us today, we have our own tough decisions that need to be made. We have questions swirling around that we’re debating and contemplating. We’re going back and forth knowing that what we decide to do will have major consequences for this season of life and also our future.
Hopefully, we view situations like this as an opportunity to totally trust God for direction, seek His will, and submit to the way He’s leading us to go.
We might not have all the information or know exactly what’s going to happen next, but we can know that God will show us the way one step of faith at a time if we turn to Him and His word.
Psalm 119:105 (NLT) says, “Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
In James 1:5 (NLT) we are given this reminder: "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
We can rest in knowing that as we follow Jesus, He prompts us to make wise decisions and remain on the right path. Even when choices are tough, He provides the peace we need to move forward with confidence.
Today, let’s remember the encouraging words found in Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."
