Biggest Questions

We have a week and a half to hype up and prepare for this year's Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Eagles. The game has much anticipation and excitement, but until kickoff, fans and media will spend time debating and discussing the questions surrounding this matchup.

On ESPN.com, there is an article titled "Eagles' Biggest Matchup Questions for Super Bowl 2025." Here is a list of some of those questions asked by ESPN's NFL reporters:

  • What's different about the Eagles since they lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl two years ago? What do they do better / worse?

  • Which player is most likely responsible for covering Travis Kelce, and what could be the Eagles' plan there?

  • What do the Eagles need from receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith to complement the run game?

  • How could the Eagles try to stop Mahomes, and will it be different from two years ago?

  • Who concerns the Eagles' defense beyond Mahomes and Kelce?

Along with these questions about the matchup, there will be questions about the Chiefs' going for a three-peat, Andy Reid coaching against his former team, and where the Chiefs' dynasty stacks up all time.

Plus, the Chiefs and Eagles players and coaches will be asked countless other questions at press conferences, on media day, and in additional interviews.

How they answer reporters' questions and what they say in response reveals a lot about who they are. Although their interviews may be quick or short sound bites, their answers still give fans insight into what they're thinking. Even their non-answers reveal something about them.

For the next week and a half, questions will be thrown out everywhere, and it will be interesting to hear their responses before the game and see the answers revealed during it.

Throughout the Gospels of the New Testament, we learn about Jesus' character, his approach to ministry, and how he interacted with others. He often used questions when engaging with people and His disciples.

In fact, Jesus asked over 300 questions to get them thinking and to reveal something. There are too many to unpack today, but we'll look at a few.

Like the players and coaches during Super Bowl week will encounter some tough questions, we, as followers of Jesus, face some critical questions to answer as we read through the Bible.

Matthew 16:13-16 (NLT) says, "When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, 'Who do people say that the Son of Man is?' 'Well,' they replied, 'some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.' Then He asked them, 'But who do you say I am?'"

That question carries a lot of weight, and our answer is critical. In verse 16, we are told, "Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.'"

What about us? What do we say? Our response reveals our hearts and whether or not we believe Jesus is the Savior.

Another question to ponder is whether we believe in His power. Our answer determines how confidently we approach Him and whether faith or worry dominates our lives.

In Matthew chapter 9, two blind men desire healing. Verses 28-30 (AMP) describe the scene: "When He went into the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, 'Do you believe [with a deep, abiding trust] that I am able to do this?' They said to Him, 'Yes, Lord.' Then He touched their eyes, saying, 'According to your faith [your trust and confidence in My power and My ability to heal] it will be done to you.' And their eyes were opened…"

The tough question, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" pops up when we encounter difficulties and pain. Do we really believe Jesus can heal us, restore us, and open our eyes? Do we trust in His power?

Lastly, in Luke 6:46 (NLT), Jesus asks, "So why do you keep calling Me 'Lord, Lord!' when you don't do what I say?"

He compares the difference between someone who listens to and follows His teaching to someone who hears and doesn't obey. It's like someone who builds a house on a solid rock foundation to someone who builds a house without a foundation.

"So why do you keep calling me 'Lord, Lord!' when you don't do what I say?" is a challenging question because how often do we choose to do what we want instead of following Him?

Hopefully, the question leads us to repentance and a desire to obey, knowing that building our life on Jesus is the answer and the firm foundation we need.

Today, as we read God's Word, we may be presented with poignant and convicting questions that cause us to reflect and determine our beliefs. I hope we can confidently answer that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, who we love and believe can do anything and whose teaching we follow and obey.

I'm Bryce Johnson, and you can UNPACK that!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I believe You sent Jesus to be the Savior, and I believe in His healing power. Please help my unbelief and forgive me for the ways I disobey. Thank You for Your grace and for allowing me to build a firm foundation on Jesus Christ. It's in His name I pray, Amen.
