The Cleveland Browns have been on a continuous downward spiral, culminating in a 1-31 combined record the last two seasons. Sadly, they’ve struggled to acquire the right players and have become a punchline in the sports world.
After years of losing, their culture has become centered around failure and negativity. But, with new general manager John Dorsey in charge, the front office is already in the process of making some positive changes.
They’ve added productive veterans Tyrod Taylor, Jarvis Landry, Carlos Hyde to their roster, as well as, additional role players through trades and free agency. Not only should these players give the Browns some weapons on the field, but also bring a fresh perspective and attitude to the locker room.
Head coach Hue Jackson appears optimistic about his team and recently had these encouraging words to say: "There will be a cleansing of this organization, and it's going to be because of the players that we've added on this team." He also believes, "It's going to be because of the new mindset of the players that are returning to this team."
The biggest change that must take place for the Browns is their way of thinking. They must remove their losing mentality and replace it with a positive outlook for their future.
The organization has acknowledged the need to go through a cleansing process. With steps being taken toward creating a healthy culture, this will ultimately result in a renewed mindset for the players.
In our own lives, change comes when we cleanse our minds from our former way of thinking. When we surrender our lives to Jesus and begin to follow Him, we no longer have to dwell on past failures that drag us down. Instead, we can allow Him to remove everything that holds us back from living and thinking victoriously.
So whether our minds need to be set free from cultural perspectives or sinful patterns, we must first focus on God’s Word to get a fresh outlook on our current situation.
1 John 1:9 (AMP) points us toward a cleansed and renewed mindset:“If we admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just , and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness .”
Today, let’s be challenged to take a look at our lives. If we’ve been encountering “Cleveland Browns type losing,” let’s make some drastic changes by seeking God and incorporating the challenge of Romans 12:2 (ESV):
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I pray you would forgive me for the sin in my life and the mindsets that are not rooted in Your truth. Please cleanse me from all unrighteousness and renew my mind so I can clearly follow Your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
