Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles had a memorable Super Bowl run with Nick Foles taking over as their quarterback. He captured the hearts of Eagles fans and became a hero in the city for the role he played during the wins.
Flashforward to this season and he also began as a backup before taking over as the starter late in the year when Carson Wentz got injured.
He's now won four games in a row as the starter, including a classic finish in Chicago during Wild Card Weekend against the Bears. He threw the game-winning touchdown pass on 4th down with about a minute left.
Amazingly, Foles is playing in a similar way as last year and the circumstances are very familiar. What makes this time around different, however, is his teammates know what he's capable of since they've seen him do it before.
The whole team is confidently playing with Foles under center because he's proven to be trustworthy in the past and they know he can do it again. He can make the big plays when he needs to and the team knows he's not rattled by the difficult moments.
So the question becomes, will the Eagles repeat as champions? We’ll watch to find out, but one thing we do know…they definitely can.
As I think about the Eagles quest to repeat and Foles showing everyone that he can do what he did before, I think we should be encouraged by the concept of repeating. Many of us are wondering today if God is going to come through for us by answering our prayers.
When we find ourselves in a new season or a new struggle, it’s crucial that we look back at God’s goodness and faithfulness from the past, and remember He's capable of repeating what He’s done before.
We know He’s provided, strengthened us, and redeemed countless difficult situations we’ve faced throughout our lives, and can definitely do it again.
By continuously reminding ourselves we can't count Him out, we're able to trust the multiple ways He can come through. Although the circumstances and results may not be identical, we can believe that God's faithfulness and love toward us will be the same.
The story of David in 1 Samuel 17:34-37 (NLT) shows how he trusted the Lord to do something similar to what He’d already done:
“But David persisted. ‘I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,’ he said. ‘When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death.
‘I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God! The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!’
“Saul finally consented. ‘All right, go ahead,’ he said. ‘And may the Lord be with you!’”
Today, let’s place our confidence and trust in the God who has already proven His love and shown us His power over and over again. He can do it again! Let’s be ready to experience a repeat of His goodness even if He answers our prayers slightly differently than before.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I pray I wouldn’t forget about all the times You showed up in amazing ways and really came through with Your power and faithfulness. Help me realize that You aren’t done working in me and in my circumstances…and that I can trust Your plan through it all. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
