Tim Tebow has officially signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end. His fascinating athletic journey continues while every move he makes warrants an unbelievable amount of attention and reaction.
Considering Tebow won the Heisman Trophy while playing quarterback, and has been out of the NFL since 2015, how is he now on the Jaguars roster as a tight end?
The obvious answer is that his college football coach at Florida, Urban Meyer, has taken over the reins in Jacksonville. The old adage is absolutely true, “It’s all about who you know.”
We haven't heard about teams calling Tebow for his football services as of late, but now he’s been given an opportunity to play again because of his relationship with the man in charge of the Jaguars.
Since Meyer and Tebow experienced success together while at Florida and became close, Tebow's being given another shot in the NFL.
However, knowing that he recently played baseball and is now going to play for the Jaguars, many don't think he deserves it. This reality is above and beyond what fans and media can comprehend.
Some people will argue that it’s not fair he has an advantage over other players just because of his connection with Meyer. Regardless, there's no denying that players who know the right person in positions of leadership are given more privilege, access, favor, and chances.
Although the principle “It’s all about who you know” is true in most areas of life and that’s why relationships are so important, as followers of Jesus, this carries even more power, weight, and opportunity.
When we have a relationship with Jesus and know the God of the universe personally and intimately, we have privilege, access, favor, and opened doors that nonbelievers don’t have.
We have clear advantages by knowing the One who is truly in charge and in control while also having privileges because of our connection to God. Because He loves us deeply and we’re united with Him through Jesus, He provides for us in immense ways.
Ephesians 1:3-5 (AMP) explains, "Blessed and worthy of praise be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ, just as He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world so that we would be holy and blameless in His sight. In love, He predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will—”
John 1:16 (AMP) says, "For out of His fullness we have all received grace upon grace .”
There's no denying we don’t deserve the blessings and favor that God pours on us, beginning with salvation and His grace, but as His children, we receive above and beyond what “fans and media” can comprehend.
John 1:12 (AMP) tells us, "But to as many, as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—”
We're also given great assurance in these two passages:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9; ESV).
"For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right” (Psalm 84:11; NLT).
Today let's praise God for giving us a chance to be on His team and enjoy the favor and gifts we experience because of our profound bond. I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that!
