Nobody Came Close to Villanova's Greatness

Villanova cut down the nets last night as they convincingly won the National Championship 79-62 over Michigan. Multiple players stepped up again (including Donte DiVincenzo who set a record off the bench with 31 points), as the Wildcats were the only ones standing in victory at the end of the tournament.

Although an impressive Championship game for Nova, the big takeaway is the dominance they displayed throughout all of March Madness. In each of their six games, they won by at least ten points with a 17.7 average margin of victory. Nobody came close to their greatness.

Fans and analysts agree today that Villanova is clearly the best team in the country, and proved it in each and every game along the way.

Nova didn’t just win but blew teams out with their elite abilities and dynamic performances. The Wildcats were obviously head and shoulders above their competition and no other team was worthy of being called Champion.

When unpacking Villanova as a team on another level that deserves the credit they've been given, God's worthiness of being praised and honored comes to mind.

Do we elevate God in His sovereignty as the one and only Creator and Provider? Do we recognize that nobody comes close to His greatness, power, and glory?

It's crazy to even try to compare the One true God to imitation gods and idols, and the questions found in Exodus 15:11 (ESV) give us a good perspective:

“Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?”

Even so, we sometimes act like we're the god of our universe and everything should center around us. We expect God to be on our level by thinking like we think and doing what we want him to do - forgetting He’s the One above all, who knows all.

Nehemiah 9:6 (NLT) reminds us, “You alone are the Lord. You made the skies and the heavens and all the stars. You made the earth and the seas and everything in them. You preserve them all, and the angels of heaven worship You.”

It’s important to acknowledge that God is God and we are not, and there's no other substitute for the King of the World. Temporary idols like success, pleasure, and money can't compare to the Almighty God. Nothing comes close to His greatness.

There is only One God who stands in victory, so as we stand with Him let's firmly declare: “Now to the King of the ages , immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever, Amen" (1 Timothy 1:17 - AMP).

I’m Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I praise Your holy name. I pray that I would elevate You and worship You alone because You are worthy. There is no other God, but You, and in You I find victory. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
