Nothing That Guy Can't Do

Buffalo Bills quarterback, Josh Allen, has developed into one of the best players in the NFL. In the past two years, he's especially taken huge steps toward elite status by throwing for 37 touchdowns and then 36 touchdowns to go along with over 4,000 passing yards each season. Allen is also an impressive runner, rushing for 31 rushing touchdowns during his first four NFL seasons, which puts him behind only one other quarterback, Cam Newton, who had 33. His success has also resulted in wins for the Buffalo Bills. He’s led the Bills to the AFC Championship game during the 2020 season and the divisional round of the playoffs last season when they lost to the Chiefs in overtime. Because of Allen’s emergence, as well as a talented team built around him, there's a lot of hype surrounding the Bills’ chances to win a Super Bowl this season. His teammates also seem to buy into what he's capable of doing as their star QB, with Bills tight end, Dawson Knox, affirming in a recent interview: “I mean, it’s every receiver, tight end, running back, it’s everyone’s dream to play with a guy like that. I mean, he can put the ball 70 yards down the field, or throw off his back foot back across himself, or make plays with his legs and extend plays. There’s nothing that guy can’t do. We’ve seen him stiff-arm defensive ends to the ground. He’s jumping over linebackers and just trucking guys. It’s insane.” With Allen's arm strength, speed, and size, he has unique abilities as a quarterback. This allows him to do almost anything on the field and leads to his teammates having confidence and trust in him. Reading how Knox describes Allen provides us with an important parallel to consider when it comes to our view of God:

  1. Do we really believe there is nothing that God can't do?

  2. Do we really trust that He is capable of anything?

  3. Do we have confidence in Him because we know our God can do the impossible?

  4. Have we seen with our eyes Him doing things that only He can do?

  5. Are we in awe of the amazing things He has done, especially sending Jesus to die and rise again so we could be saved? We can look to the Bible and see different people declaring God's power and abilities and acknowledging how He can do anything. Job 42:2 (ESV) exclaims, “I know that You can do all things and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted." The Living Bible translates the verse this way: “I know that You can do anything and that no one can stop You." Jeremiah 32:17 (ESV) says, "'Ah, Lord God! It is You who have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for You.'" In Luke 1:37 (ESV), the angel Gabriel tells Mary, "For nothing will be impossible with God.” Today as we think about Dawson Knox's words about Josh Allen, "There’s nothing that guy can’t do," let's be reminded that the truth is...there's nothing our God can't do. Let's proclaim it and believe it as we face each obstacle and opponent in front of us! I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that! PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I acknowledge Your power and believe You are capable of anything. Nobody can stop You and nothing can get in Your way. I'm thankful that I can trust in You and Your abilities. I pray I wouldn't forget that You are with me and working in me and around me. I'm in awe of Your greatness and humbled by Your willingness to save me. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen. Discussion Questions for PACKS:
