Season On the Line

After 162 regular season games played by the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs (plus a tie-breaker), their postseason future all came down to a winner take all wild-card game last night. The Rockies pulled out the 2-1 victory in a 13-inning, 4-hour, 55-minute classic win-or-go-home game.

Considered as one of the best teams in the National League this season, along with recently winning the World Series and having a very talented roster, the Cubs had high postseason hopes.

Despite all that, their season was on the line last night and they didn’t take care of what needed to be done. They’re no longer alive in the playoffs.

Looking back over the season, the Cubs struggled with hitting the ball. Last night was the 40th time in 2018 that they scored one or zero runs, which actually leads the league. They kept thinking they would get it together, but instead they're not moving on in the playoffs.

People live each day either knowing they’ll be alive in the “postseason” or their “playoff chances” are still on the line. Although each of us has an opportunity to spend eternity with God because of Jesus, it all comes down to whether or not we’ve trusted Him as our Savior. After all, He's the one who took care of what needed to be done.

There is a “winner take all” scenario for our soul. Even though we may be able to list off our “talented roster” or our many past accomplishments, our response to Jesus is all that matters when our eternity is on the line.

The Bible clearly explains in 1 John 5:11-13 (AMP), "And the testimony is this: God has given us eternal life , and this life is in His Son . He who has the Son has the life ; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

"These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God , so that you will know that you have eternal life.”

If we know and follow Jesus, we can confidently trust we’ll remain alive for the “postseason.” If we can't definitively say that today, let's acknowledge our season is on the line...and choose to claim the victory which is ours for the taking!

I’m Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to find victory on the cross and for allowing me to have eternity with You. I pray I would help others understand that their eternity is on the line and they need Jesus as their Savior. It’s in His name I pray, Amen.
