So Many Different Receivers

It’s incredible that Tom Brady is still playing at such a high level during this point in his career. He’ll most likely go down as the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL, and his accomplishments and stats will back that up.

Remarkably, he is the owner of many NFL records including these:

  1. Regular season wins by a starting quarterback and playoff wins.

  2. Passing yards and touchdowns for regular season and playoffs combined.

  3. Super Bowl MVPs and Super Bowl wins.

The list goes on and on, but the one record that stands out is the number of different receivers to catch a touchdown from him.

As countless players have cycled through the New England Patriots, Brady has been the one constant on the field. While playing with so many teammates throughout his long career, he’s thrown a touchdown pass to “72” different receivers.

As Antonio Brown became number “72” this past Sunday, I think about this unique group of receivers who will one day tell their kids that they caught a pass from Tom Brady.

A special career and lifetime connection has been created with each of these guys simply because they received a touchdown pass from Tom Brady.

Having a bond with the players he’s passed to, links them together forever and makes me consider how this concept relates to our faith journey.

I can’t help but wonder how many people know Jesus because we passed on our knowledge and experience to them. Do we have a special bond with certain people because we're the ones who shared the Gospel with them and they received it?

A touchdown reception occurs when a quarterback delivers the ball to the receiver. Likewise, God uses us as instruments to deliver the Gospel to those open to receive it. Wouldn’t it be amazing to know that 72 people’s lives were impacted because we passed the truth to them?

As followers of Jesus, our hearts and minds have been transformed by God’s saving grace and gift of eternal life. We should be extremely excited to spread this knowledge and understanding to as many “receivers” as possible.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 2:14 (AMP), “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads and makes evident everywhere the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him.”

Today, let’s be willing to pass the sweet Good News of Jesus to those who are “open” to receive salvation and a new life found in Him. I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I pray that I’d be used to draw others to You. Please give me a heart and passion for those who have not yet received Your grace, and a willingness to share the Gospel with them. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Discussion Questions for PACKS:

What is your experience in sharing the Gospel with others?

Who “passed” the Gospel onto you? Do you have a special connection with that person?
