The NFL's Latest Search

When watching or listening to football coverage, the news always seems to be about an NFL investigation...or an update that the NFL is conducting additional interviews...or the NFL is searching for more details regarding a team or player’s alleged misconduct.  From Deflategate to the current issue involving the Al-Jazeera report on performance-enhancing drugs, the NFL and Commissioner Goodell are continuously in the middle of something controversial. You could argue, however, that the NFL is constantly striving to make improvements to the league. By investigating potential problems and finding their solutions, effort is being made to stay on top of the sports world. But whether you side with the players or the league office about these questionable matters, ultimately as fans we desire the truth and what’s best overall for the sport. As I think about the league office consistently seeking, questioning, discovering, and searching, I believe this same process is worth incorporating into our own lives. We can seek God, question motives behind our own decisions, discover His goodness, and allow Him to search our hearts. Each action is involved in the pursuit of deeper faith and a better understanding of truth. As the NFL searches within their league for the purpose of revealing all that needs to be changed or dealt with, let’s be encouraged to do the same in our own lives. We can humbly pray these verses from Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV): "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!"

Today, let’s be challenged to be still and quiet long enough for God to reveal the aspects of our heart that need to be surrendered to Him, and allow His grace through Jesus to cover us as we confess the truth. I'm Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that! PRAYER: Heavenly Father, "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Please help me to seek You, look inward and question my motives, and discover Your goodness and faithfulness. Thank you for Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
