“This series too good to end in 6...Dodgers force a game 7...they win it 3-1” was Joe Buck’s final call during the last out in the 9th inning as Houston fell to LA in another thrilling game.
For the second year in a row, baseball fans are treated to a Game 7 in the World Series, as this excellent matchup continues for one more night.
Dodgers' Yasiel Puig had his prediction come true following his team’s loss in Game 5: “This is not going to be finished Tuesday. There is going to be a Game 7.”
We’ve seen great pitching at times, but both teams have been hitting home runs left and right while setting records along the way. Thankfully the excitement continues for another night, and fans everywhere get to experience the joy that comes from Game 7 of a World Series.
As I think about Joe Buck’s final words last night, I am reminded that God is too good to allow things to end without a “Game 7."
Many times in our lives, we’re waiting for a breakthrough or some kind of victory, and we know our story can’t be over. As we encounter a hardship, we sense it can’t end before something good comes out of it. God is too good for our story to "end in 6."
When Jesus went to the cross and died, God showed He was too good for the story to end with His Son being left in the tomb, so He brought Jesus back to life after three days.
Joseph in the Bible was thrown into a pit and disowned by his brothers, but eventually God delivered him, and Joseph was mightily used for His glory. God is too good to allow Joseph’s life to end in the pit.
Over and over God reveals His goodness, and continues our story until there is a “Game 7.” Understanding the good that comes from the trials in our lives isn't always easy, but ultimately we are developing character and becoming more like Jesus.
The Bible says in Romans 8:28 (ESV), "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”
God is not finished with us yet. So even though we don’t always understand His ways, and how He’ll work ALL things for good, we can boldly have confidence like Puig that "there is going to be a Game 7.”
Isaiah 30:18 (NIV) proclaims, "Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore He will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him!"
As we celebrate the fact the World Series isn’t over until we witness a “Game 7” win, let’s cling to the hope we have in a God who is too good to let our situation end without a “Game 7” victory.
I’m Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I know You are so good, merciful, and loving. I trust that my story isn’t over, and You have the power to redeem and restore. Thank you for working all things together for good and for Your purpose. I pray my faith would be strong in You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
