Who's Got it Better Than Us?

Michigan’s head football coach, Jim Harbaugh, continues to push the limits for attention, recruiting, and entertainment. His latest “headline maker” is a viral music video with rapper, Bailey, called Who’s Got it Better Than Us? As the football coach yells his famous saying over and over again, I must admit it’s very catchy. I also find it entertaining to see one of the top football coaches in the country appear in a rap song. I love Harbaugh’s energy, boldness, and passion, and think he’ll continue to rebuild the program. The catchphrase he borrows from his dad, “Who’s Got it Better Than Us? NOBODY!” is very motivating, and his players seem to respond to his over the top enthusiasm. However, the jury is still out regarding whether or not these lyrics added to a rap song will help with recruiting! Either way, when I think about the meaning of these words in a larger context, I wonder how many people honestly say with confidence, “Who’s Got it Better Than Us? NOBODY!" I tend to believe that too many of us consider others being better off than we are based on either more money, status, or power. When we look at athletes, wealthy people, and successful people who have it “so good,” we struggle being satisfied with what we have. But when we think about our life with Jesus and what He’s done for us, we should yell out with great conviction: “Who’s Got it Better Than Us? NOBODY!" We truly have everything we need and we must focus on the reality that Jesus has given us new life and a way to know God personally. He gives us Himself, along with peace, joy, strength, grace, and mercy...and it doesn’t get any better than that! Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) says, Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Also, John 16:33 (ESV) gives us these encouraging words: I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” When we continue to see struggles all around us, let’s cling to what we have as followers of Jesus. As we view our everyday lives through the perspective of God’s Word and His love for us, how can we claim anything other than, “Who’s Got it Better Than Us? NOBODY!" I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that! PRAYER: Heavenly Father, forgive me for forgetting how great I really do have it because of Jesus. I’m so thankful for eternal life and forgiveness. I’m grateful to have peace and joy as I walk with You. Help me to truly be satisfied in You and not get caught up in what the world makes me think is a better life. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
