The NFL is a couple of weeks away from training camps getting underway and the preseason games starting up. As players and coaches prepare for another season, Fantasy Football owners also begin getting ready for the new season.
Many of us have already made plans for our draft and have begun our Fantasy research. However, there are other football fans who aren't in a league yet and are encouraged by promotions saying, “Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late - Sign Up Now!”
I'm heading into my 16th season playing Fantasy Football and always look forward to renewing my league before the season starts up again. Most Fantasy Football owners can’t wait to rejoin a previous league or sign up for a new one, and once in, it's time to start preparing for the draft.
From my perspective, I would never want to put off registering for a league and end up missing out on the thrill and competitiveness of participating in Fantasy Football. It's a joy to quickly confirm my two leagues each year and then get ready for the new season.
Others either go back and forth on whether or not they want to play or hesitate while determining which league to be in. Or they wait to join a league and draft at the last minute without enough time for preparation. If they drag their feet too long, and the season begins, they've missed their opportunity.
Along with delays in Fantasy sign-ups, we often procrastinate in different areas of our lives. We can all relate to either waiting until the last minute and end up paying the price...or saying we'll take care of something tomorrow and then saying the same thing again when tomorrow comes.
As followers of Jesus, are we willing to eliminate procrastination when it comes to serving our spouse or spending more time with our kids or calling our friends who need encouragement or signing up to be a church volunteer or making firm commitments?
More importantly, are we ready to give up procrastinating to intentionally move forward in following Jesus, to tell our friends about the Good News, and to take the steps of faith God asks us to take? After all, what are we waiting for?
With days flying by, and our life on this earth quickly vanishing, let’s stop procrastinating and be wise about doing God’s will.
The Bible says in Ephesians 5:15-17 (ESV), "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is."
Today is the day to ask God what He's calling us to do, what steps He's asking us to take, and what areas of our lives procrastinating needs to cease.
Let’s not be like the wannabe Fantasy Football owners who “Wait Until It’s Too Late.” Instead, let’s sign up NOW!

I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
