  1. Bracket of Integrity

Today is the day to finish filling out our brackets, and I’ve got another thought to unpack. Are you the type of person who decides to complete multiple brackets with different picks or do you stick with the one and only “bracket of integrity?” I understand the reasoning behind entering multiple office pools and diversifying your selections to give yourself the best chance to win, but I’m in favor of people only having one bracket. More specifically, I’m convinced we should only talk about or represent one bracket. If someone…

  2. The Wise Bracket

The clock is ticking and I don’t know about you, but I haven’t filled out my NCAA Tournament bracket yet. As I look back on previous seasons, I realize that too many years I’ve tried to get “cute” with my bracket by picking upsets and teams I like rather than teams that are better. Since college basketball overlaps with the NFL season, I don’t watch very many games before March begins. So, here I am staring at an empty bracket, wondering who to pick. If I make choices based on my…

  3. Confident Brackets

We are days away from the start of college basketball’s phenomenal yearly tournament. I absolutely love March Madness and can’t wait to watch all of the games. The element that makes this tournament so captivating is the process of filling out a bracket while predicting the outcome of games. Guessing which teams will make it to the Final Four and which teams will pull the surprising upset is always entertaining. As we fill out our brackets, we are convinced that the matchups will play out a certain way. Some of us become…

  4. The Madness is Well Underway

March Madness is well underway and the month of college basketball is always filled with upsets, craziness, confusion, and buzzer-beaters. So many exciting games are being played during the conference tournaments right now, and soon we will be watching the chaos in the NCAA Tournament.   When I watch multiple games at once, my head spins as I try to consume it all and soak in every close finish. Unfortunately, sometimes when four games are going on at once, I can’t keep up with which team has the ball and what…

  5. Team Tragedy

The Oklahoma City Thunder has experienced a season of adversity…and I don’t mean on the basketball court. They have recently had three tragic deaths within the organization: Assistant coach, Monty Williams’ wife, Ingrid, was killed in a car crash last month; part-owner, Aubrey McClendon, died in a car accident last week; and the younger brother of guard, Dion Waiters, was randomly shot in Philadelphia this week.  In light of everything they’re dealing with, and beyond their play on the basketball court, this team strongly stands together. I watched an ESPN report…

  6. Utilizing Every God-Given Asset

“Peyton Manning utilized every asset that God gave him to be the best football player that he could be” are the words John Elway spoke when describing the retiring quarterback during Monday’s press conference. Manning was given plenty of “assets” from God, including a strong family heritage, a tall frame, intellect, and passion for the game. Elway didn’t say Peyton was the best, but instead “the best football player that he could be.” Manning maximized the assets he was blessed with. I appreciate Elway acknowledging the role God and Peyton…

  7. It’s Official!

It’s official – Peyton Manning has retired from the NFL after a legendary 18-year career! As one of my all-time favorite athletes, I am going to miss watching him play. Manning has demonstrated many different admirable attributes throughout his career as a football player, and much can be learned from his example as a teammate too. One attribute worth focusing on is his ability to prepare. He was always known for studying game film and being ready for every team that he played against. Broncos’ head coach Gary Kubiak said, “It was a…

  8. Building Up

Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors are having a historic NBA season and everyone is taking notice. Curry’s 3-point shooting ability is extremely elite and his overall skills as a player are being admired by many fans, media, and other players. However, some former players have decided to raise doubts and point out flaws instead. While comparing to the era they played in or the team they played for, they have criticized how the Warriors stack up in a historical context. They have mentioned how the Warriors’ opponents are…

  9. Getting Rid of Bed Bugs

“Don’t let the bedbugs bite” is a silly little line we’ve all heard or said at some point before going to sleep. However, Cleveland Cavaliers’ point guard Kyrie Irving experienced the serious consequences of having bed bugs on his pillow. Getting bit at a hotel the night before a recent game led to no sleep and flu-like symptoms, and having to leave the game early because of the effects of those little creatures. We probably haven’t taken the idea of bed bugs very seriously, and jump into bed overlooking the reality of…

  10. No Sweat for Steph

The Golden State Warriors have captivated the sports world with their entertaining brand of basketball. Steph Curry is an unbelievable player with a smooth and dominant game. My wife Jodi isn’t a huge sports fan, but she enjoys watching Steph play. The other night she made an observation that he wasn’t even sweating – alluding to how effortless the game appears when he’s on the court. Curry has undoubtedly worked very hard (especially since he’s smaller, weaker, and less athletic than many of the other players), but his game has clicked…
