  1. “Conquer Your Ego”

Jason Day had a tough first round at The Open Championship yesterday, finishing 2 over par with a score of 73. Regardless of where he finishes this week, Day is still a tremendous player whose game has gone to another level. At the moment he’s the world’s #1 ranked golfer, but top golfers like Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, and Rory McIlroy are right behind him. Earlier this week when asked about The Open and competing against those guys, Day said, “I’m not so worried about them beating me, I’m worried about…

  2. Gathering Together

Last night ESPN put on their yearly awards show, the ESPYS. Athletes, actors, and entertainers all gather at one location to celebrate the year in sports. It’s always a great show, and I especially enjoy seeing athletes from different sports interacting with each other. Before the ceremony began, two of my favorite players, Kobe Bryant and Peyton Manning, were interviewed together. With both recently retiring, they had a lot in common to share, and their back and forth comments were very entertaining. These sports superstars appear to really enjoy the…

  3. Make Baseball Fun Again

The MLB season is at its midpoint, and last night they celebrated their sport with the annual All-Star Game. One of the biggest young stars in the sport is Bryce Harper from the Washington Nationals. He’s hitting the ball well, and his team is looking to make a playoff run this year. What I appreciate about Harper is his willingness to be vocal about infusing baseball with energy and personality. This season he’s putting into action a “Make Baseball Fun Again” campaign, which many fans seem to be backing. I am…

  4. Making the Leap

It’s that time of the summer when sports fans and the media shift their attention to the upcoming NFL season. July is always filled with predictions and lists, and right now NFL.com is doing an online series of articles called “Making the Leap.” Their description reads: “We feature emerging players to keep an eye on in 2016. Whether rising from no-namer to quality starter or vaulting from standout to superstar, each of these individuals is poised to breakthrough in the coming campaign.” I enjoy reading about which players will make…

  5. One or the Other

Kevin Durant had his introductory press conference yesterday as the newest member of the Golden State Warriors. It’s pretty remarkable that the best team in the Western Conference (winning 73 games last year), added another extremely talented player to their roster. Although they are the early favorites to win next year’s championship, how NBA fans and media members view the Warriors moving forward is very intriguing. A couple of years ago when Steph Curry was bursting onto the scene as one of the top players in the league, and the Warriors began to…

  6. Nothing is for Certain in the NBA By Jason Romano

LSU forward, Ben Simmons, was recently drafted #1 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. Ben’s talent has been raved about by scouts for years. He appears to be a lock as a future NBA superstar. But nothing is ever guaranteed. There have been many prospects who were thought to be “can’t miss” picks, drafted in the early stages of the first round, who didn’t work out. Guys like Darko Milicic, Greg Oden, and Kwame Brown are actually more famous for the lack of success they’ve had after being drafted into the NBA…

  7. When the Best Ability is Availability

The NBA free agent frenzy has begun, and many players across the league have expired contracts and are available for teams to recruit and sign them. I’m always intrigued to hear the rumors, and I can’t wait to see where this group of free agents end up. With an increase in the salary cap, teams have more money to spend during this year’s off-season. Players available right now are taking advantage of the timing and will end up signing very hefty contracts. In many cases, free agents will not only…
