The NBA trade deadline passed yesterday, and although it wasn’t as eventful as some had hoped or even speculated, plenty of players will be shipped from one franchise to another. In an instant, these players will be forced to move across the country, have different teammates, and learn a new team philosophy.

In the spirit of all the trading that took place this week, I’m reminded of how you and I have been offered the biggest trade in history! When Jesus went to the cross to die for you and me, the punishment and death we deserve were traded for grace and eternal life. When we receive salvation, we trade our old life for a new life in Christ.

The Bible says in Ephesians 4:21-24, “…Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”

Talk about a one-sided trade! We bring nothing to the table except our sinful selves filled with despair, uncertainty, emptiness, and depravity…and God approves the trade by allowing Jesus to die on the cross for us so that we can receive a new life filled with hope, joy, peace, and grace. Wow, that’s incredible!

As we go about our day, let’s be encouraged to acknowledge this incomparable trade by leaving our old life behind and embracing all that God offers. And, if you still haven’t accepted the deal that’s on the table…what are you waiting for?

I’m Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that!
