The Denver Broncos are the Super Bowl champs, and the main reason they were so successful this year was because of their dominant defense. They limited some of the best quarterbacks in the league because they had such a great strategy and ability to defend. The Broncos were in a position to win each week because they put a strong emphasis on defense.

When it comes to living a life of faith in Jesus, a strong defense should be included in how we approach our walk with the Lord. On one end we need a tight defense to fight against the evil that infiltrates our lives. We also need to be able to defend our faith in a way that impacts others.

The English Standard Version of the Bible says in 1 Peter 3:15, “…But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…”

The New Living Translation of the same verse puts it like this: “…Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it…”

If defense wins championships in sports, let’s make sure we’re putting an emphasis on defense in our own lives by properly preparing for spiritual attacks or questioning from others.  Can we defend why we believe what we believe? Can we defend what we believe? Do people see a difference in us and recognize we have a hope we’re willing to defend? Does our lifestyle defend our faith and represent what we say we believe?

If our defense isn’t where it needs to be, let’s recognize the importance of making the necessary changes today. I’m Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that!
