The Philadelphia Eagles got back on track last night with a convincing win over the New York Giants 34-13. The headlines dominating today aren’t about the Super Bowl champs, but rather the current state and future of the Giants.

Specifically, the focus has been on the poor quarterback play from veteran, Eli Manning. He was 24/43 passing with one interception and no touchdowns last night. He’s continued to struggle this year, despite being surrounded by talented wide receivers and a star rookie running back.

So this morning, the headlines have a similar “It’s Time” theme:

  • “The End of Eli in NY: Time for Giants to Move on from Manning”

  • “End of Eli Manning with New York Giants – Time for Team to Draft New Quarterback”

  • “The Giants Need Eli Manning to Retire Immediately”

  • “Is it Time for the Giants to Give up on Eli Manning for Good After Another Poor Performance?”

  • “Report: Eli Manning is Losing the Giant’s Locker Room”

Eli has been the franchise QB under center for the Giants since 2004, so the owners, coaches, players, and fans can’t easily let go. We never like to watch stars decline in their performance on the field, but it’s inevitable and everyone can see that Eli isn’t the same player he used to be.

He’s a two-time Super Bowl winner, probably the most accomplished offensive player in Giants history, and more than likely a future Hall of Famer, but most agree…it’s time.

It’s time for the Giants to make a QB change, time to move on from Eli, time for Eli to retire or play for another team with a great offensive line….and it’s time to draft his replacement.

As the Giants and Eli wrestle with this decision and try to figure out how to transition well, the first step they have to take is recognizing that it’s time.

Similarly, there are things going on in our lives where deep down we know it’s time to do something, time to make a change or time to switch things up.

We might try to talk ourselves out of making a move or there is probably hesitation, resistance, or fear we’re battling, but deep down we know…it’s time.

  • It’s time to step out in faith and go for it.

  • It’s time to start reading our Bible every day.

  • It’s time to forgive the person who hurt us.

  • It’s time to let go of the sin that’s holding us back.

  • It’s time to start exercising.

  • It’s time to work less and serve more.

  • It’s time to stand up to our boss.

  • It’s time to move on from friends that are dragging us down.

  • It’s time to pursue the dream we’ve always had.

  • It’s time to leave our job.

  • It’s time to get our family back in church.

  • It’s time to tell our friend about Jesus.

  • It’s time to surrender our own lives to Jesus.

Each of us has something hanging over our heads or swirling around in our hearts, and it’s time we trust God to empower us to go for it and follow what He’s leading us to do.

We can find our encouragement in Ephesians 5:15-17 (NLT) where it says, “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”

Today, let’s stop making excuses and giving reasons to delay when God has made it clear…it’s time!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I pray I would know what You want me to do, what I need to let go of and surrender to You. Please show me when it’s time to step out in faith and make the necessary changes. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen!
