The Carolina Panthers are a young and very talented team, with ten guys being voted to the Pro Bowl. Impressive on both offense and defense they only lost two games all season long but fell short in the biggest game of the year.

Now that the Super Bowl is over, our attention turns toward next season. Who are the favorites to be the best? Will the Panthers and Broncos be back? With Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly leading the way, the expectation is the Panthers might have the best chance to win Super Bowl LI.

Fans of the team (myself included) believe the Panthers are built to compete at a high level for the foreseeable future, and they will have more opportunities to win the Super Bowl. Many of us are so confident that we keep saying “we’ll be back…this is just the beginning…and we’ll have another chance.”

When it comes to life and faith, we make similar claims about our own future. We might believe that tomorrow we’ll have another shot at saying “yes” to God and making an impact…or we’ll take our faith more seriously…or we’ll reach out to our struggling friend…or we’ll visit our lonely grandma.

The Panthers might get another run to the Super Bowl, and we might have other opportunities to do what’s most important, but we have to be careful that we’re not overconfident about the future and miss opportunities today.

Proverbs 27:1 says, “Never brag about what you will do in the future; you have no idea what tomorrow will bring.” Although we hope to always have more chances, like the Panthers, and do things differently the next time, we have no idea what’s going to pop up tomorrow to prevent that from happening.

Today, let’s be aware of the opportunities right in front of us at this moment. Let’s be challenged to say yes to the things that matter most – to serve God…reach those around us…pursue our family…spend time with our spouse…and make the very most of TODAY.
