After 16 seasons with the Chargers’ organization, Philip Rivers will put on a new jersey this fall when he takes the reins of the offense for the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have a very talented team and should benefit greatly by adding a veteran at quarterback with Rivers’ resume.

Rivers has more total yards than John Elway, more touchdowns than Joe Montana, and more Pro Bowls than Kurt Warner and Terry Bradshaw combined. He’s also played and started in every regular-season game since taking over in 2006.

Despite Rivers accomplishing so much throughout his career, he’s often overlooked because his contemporaries like Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady all have Super Bowl rings. Rivers and the Chargers haven’t had much success in the playoffs with a 5-6 record.

Although he’s thrown a ton of touchdowns (397) and puts up huge passing numbers every year, and some would argue he’ll be a Hall of Famer, the one thing missing from his resume is a Super Bowl win.

Rivers has been impressive during the regular season, but he’s yet to fill the void of winning the big game. Now heading into his 17th season, he’s running out of time to satisfy his desire for a ring.

In our own lives, many of us have felt or are feeling right now that something is missing. We sense there’s a void that needs to be filled. We may have a strong resume that includes job accomplishments or amazing life experiences, but at our core, we realize they don’t fulfill us like we thought they would.

The truth is, only God can satisfy the deepest longings of our soul. We can have “great regular season numbers” such as money, power, acclaim, and even the American dream, but none of those things replace what’s missing.

In Psalm 63:1 (NLT), the Psalmist cries out, “O God, You are my God; I earnestly search for You. My soul thirsts for You; my whole body longs for You in this parched and weary land where there is no water.”

Philip Rivers may or may not be able to attain what’s missing on his football resume, but the good news is, the void missing in all of us is filled when Jesus is our Lord and Savior.

When we pursue Him with all of our hearts and rest in Him, we experience the satisfaction we’re looking for. When we seek Him, we will find Him.

Psalm 16:11(AMP) declares, “…In Your presence is fullness of joy; in Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”

The Bible also says in Psalm 107:9 (ESV), “For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things.”

Today, if it feels like something is missing in our lives, let’s stop chasing after things that will only leave us empty. Instead, let’s find our fulfillment in knowing God deeply and enjoying Him.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I long for You and know lasting satisfaction is found in You. I pray I’d stop trying to fill the void by chasing other things. Please help me to remember that I don’t need anything else when I have Jesus. It’s in His name I pray, Amen.
