The World Series ended last night in Game 6 with the LA Dodgers beating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1. They finally clinched the title after finishing as the runner up in 2017 and 2018.

This was a huge win for this roster as many of the key pieces have remained together over the last few years. But, it’s also a great celebration for life-long Dodgers fans who haven’t won the World Series since 1988.

The Dodgers finally put an end to their three-decade title drought!

They’ve had good teams over the years and in recent seasons have competed with an elite team that just wasn’t able to produce the necessary results.

Especially in the last couple of years, they wondered why they weren’t winning when it mattered most and why they weren’t experiencing the fruit from their talented roster.

Ultimately, the Dodgers had to learn what it took to win and finally overcame everything that was holding them back from securing the World Series trophy.

They made the necessary changes to end the title drought and the players and fans are now enjoying the victory they’ve been longing for.

How many of us today find ourselves in our own drought? Maybe it’s a financial drought, a relationship drought, or a spiritual drought? We’ve been longing for victory and maybe we’ve been close a few times to a breakthrough, but “runner up” has been our end result.

Or maybe we are winning in certain areas of life, but we aren’t winning when or where it matters most and we’re not experiencing genuine fruitfulness. We may be producing results in the “regular season,” but haven’t been producing from an eternal perspective.

As we look to put an end to our spiritual drought and desire to produce more fruit in our lives, we must make the necessary changes so we can enjoy the victory we long for. This happens when we remain connected and committed to Jesus – the source of lasting victory and fruit.

Jesus says in John 15:4-5 (AMP), “’Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you [bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith] unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.’”

The reason we’re in a spiritual drought is that we’re trying to find peace, joy, life, and victory apart from Him, but we only bear meaningful fruit in Him and with Him. Only Jesus can satisfy our deepest longings and produce results in us that matter for eternity.

Today, let’s walk with Jesus and abide in Him. As we do, our spiritual drought will lift and the fruit and light of our faith will be evident.

Ephesians 5:8-11 (ESV) reminds us, “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.”
