Andy Reid has been a head coach since 1999 with both the Eagles and the Chiefs. He’s the only coach to win 100 games and go to four consecutive conference championships with two different franchises, and the only coach to appear in five consecutive conference championship games. Reid has won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs and has a chance at another one this Sunday.

He’s a remarkable coach for many reasons, but what he’s best known for is being the ultimate play-designer and play-caller on offense. His game script and how he designs plays, along with his timing on when to call them, sets his players up for success.

Reid is also a very creative and often unconventional play designer as he includes many surprises, unique wrinkles, and different formations. He puts his players in the best position to thrive and sees possibilities and opportunities on the field that others just don’t see.

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are in sync as Mahomes trusts his coach’s playcalling, play design, and game script. Mahomes has become a superstar quarterback because his coach’s game plan allows him to go out and execute in a way that leads to winning.

When it comes to our own lives, are we similarly in sync with God and trust Him as the ultimate “Play-Designer and Play-Caller” who sets us up for “success”?

Do we believe that God has designed unique plans for each of us and that His ways (“plays”) are truly the best?

The Bible says in Ephesians 2:10 (AMP), “For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].”

Do we trust that the “plays” He calls will enable us to thrive in ways that matter? Do we believe that His “game script” allows us to go out and execute in a way that leads to “winning”?

Psalm 32:8 (NLT) explains, “The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.’”

As the ultimate “play-designer,” God sees things and knows things that nobody else does. He sees the whole picture and knows where the opportunities are for us, but we have to wait for Him to “call the play” in His perfect timing.

God is also a creative and unconventional “play-designer” as He includes many surprises, unique wrinkles, and different ways of accomplishing His purposes in our lives.

We’re told in Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT), “’My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.’”

Today, let’s be encouraged that God’s design for our lives is wonderful. Let’s choose to follow His perfect “play-calling” by the power of the Holy Spirit and the “game script” in His Word as He leads us in victory.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I trust that Your plan and Your design are best. Help me to follow Your path as I look to You each step of the way. Teach me to trust in Your timing and when things don’t make sense, help me remember that Your ways are higher than my ways and that You see things I can’t. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
