  1. Phil’s Focus

Winning the PGA Championship at 50 years, 11 months old, Phil Mickelson made golf history yesterday. As the oldest major champion, he put on a remarkable performance Sunday by starting and ending with the lead and overcoming difficult moments along the way. The large crowd at Kiawah Island rooted hard for him all weekend long and created a wild scene on the 18th hole. Ironically, his age and the crowd not only made the day memorable but turned out to be his two biggest challenges while playing for his sixth major win…

  2. Responding to the Pressure

What a joy to watch the Masters with all of the intriguing stories and incredible players, yet what jumps out to me is the atmosphere of pressure that permeates throughout the tournament. There’s no denying that every golfer feels some level of pressure when they show up to Augusta. With more eyes on the players during the Masters, there’s a heightened intensity and with the allure of the tournament, there’s a stronger desire to win. Also, each player carries their own burdens onto the tee box and feels a personal weight…

  3. You Can’t Win on Thursday, But You Can Lose

The Masters started yesterday and after the first round, Justin Rose was leading at -7 with a score of 65. It’s nice to see your name on top of the leaderboard after Thursday, but Rose has to focus on what’s next because winning after the first day ultimately doesn’t matter. He’s had two runner-up finishes at Augusta in the past, so he’s hoping to win his first Green Jacket on Sunday. Thursday included some other notable accomplishments, including Jordan Spieth hitting the most greens (16 of 18), while Henrik Stenson…

  4. 2020 BEST of UNPACK this…The “Nevers”

This Sunday, part two of The Match: Champions for Charity takes place as Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning compete against Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady on the golf course to raise money for charity. I can’t wait to watch these incredible superstars go head to head in this worthwhile golf competition and must admit I’ll be rooting for Tiger and Peyton. To promote the event, Turner’s Ernie Johnson did a hilarious interview with all four of the guys bantering back and forth. It was a teaser to how fun it will be…

  5. “I Know Where I’m Aiming”

Dustin Johnson has been one of the best golfers in the sport for quite some time, but his performance at the Masters over the weekend put him on another level. Winning by five strokes, he dominated by shooting -20. Last year at the Masters, Johnson finished tied for second and had previously held 54-hole leads in four major championships but ended up losing them all. However, this time around he shot a 4-under 68 on Sunday to pull it out and leave with a Green Jacket. According to ESPN.com. “Johnson’s 72-hole scoring…

  6. The Silent Masters

The Masters begins today, and as golf fans, we love this “tradition unlike any other.” But this year’s tournament won’t be like any other Masters because it’s November and there are no patrons in attendance. Although we’re still going to enjoy the coverage on TV as the best golfers in the world tee it up, playing at Augusta National without the crowds cheering will seem strange. Without loud applause for dramatic shots and only golfers and caddies on the course, the silence at the Masters will remain a key factor…

  7. The Winning Formula

In Tom Van Haaren’s article on ESPN.com, he writes about Bryson DeChambeau’s big win yesterday at Detroit Golf Club. Finishing 23 under and shooting his best score (65) in the final round, he held off Matthew Wolff and Kevin Kisner. DeChambeau had five PGA Tour wins entering this season and has already gotten off to a strong start – especially playing well since returning from a three-month layoff during the pandemic. He used that time to add 20 pounds (now up to 40) and increase his muscle so he can hit…

  8. “Why Not Me Today?”

The PGA Tour officially resumed this past weekend as Daniel Berger won the Charles Schwab Challenge in a one-hole playoff against Collin Morikawa at the Colonial Country Club. The tournament provided drama, excitement, and intrigue with a strong leaderboard and a competitive finish. Berger won his third tournament on the PGA Tour and interestingly enough, all three times (2016, 2017, 2020) came during the same week on the calendar. Berger finished as the winner after eight different players were on top during the final round. Sunday began with 14 players within…

  9. “Glorious Trainwreck”

The Match II: Champions for Charity was a big hit on Sunday with millions of people tuning in to watch Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson take on Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning in a round of golf. This unique event was very entertaining – especially watching them ride around in golf carts with cameras rolling and listening to their light-hearted conversations. The competition came down to the wire with Mickelson and Brady rallying late and Tiger and Peyton hanging on for the win. Overall, it was a great experience for us…
