Russell Westbrook is one of the best players in the NBA right now. He is one of those guys who has the ability to make his presence known all over the floor by shooting, passing, and yes…dunking! Every game he plays is filled with incredible dunks.

Westbrook is only 6’ 3” and plays the point guard position for the Oklahoma City Thunder, but his ability to get to the rim and slam it with such great power is impressive. He plays fearlessly and is willing to attack the basket, regardless of who is guarding him. Defenders can’t really do much because of his amazing amount of strength.

Power and fearlessness are important on the basketball court, but also crucial in our own lives. When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are given the Holy Spirit to empower us and provide strength. The same power that raised Jesus from the grave, lives in us.

As followers of Jesus, we should be confident when we face struggles and problems because of the power we have inside of us and the gifts we’ve been given. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7, For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”

Today, let’s ask ourselves if we are living life defeated and fearful or if we are relying on the power of God’s spirit, so we no longer have to be timid. While dealing with all of life’s challenges, let’s remember that our strength apart from God is weak…but our weakness with God is powerful.

I’m Bryce Johnson and you can unpack that!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to rely on You for strength and power. Help me to recognize the spirit You have given me should not make me fearful or timid, but should give me power, love, and self-discipline. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
